hmmm

Japan is pretty germ conscious. I like wearing masks when you are ill or when you don't want to get ill from others. It makes sense.

However, Japan, Japan, Japan... Some things still don't make sense to my British brain.

Why oh why do washing machines only wash with cold water?
...
Why oh why does everyone clean their teeth after lunch at school without toothpaste? (Yes, its better than nothing, but if you're going to do it, you might as well do it well...)
...
Why oh why does Japan insist on putting woollen covers on western style toilet seats and... never... ever... changing them?
...
Why oh why do you insist that everyone wears indoor shoes at school and yet... changing between school buildings doesn't require a change of shoes (even though you are walking on dusty gravel)?
...
Why oh why do parents give heat pads and gloves to their kids, but yet dress them up in shorts? Its literally zero degrees in the classroom!
...
Why oh why do you have 'no overtime days' when nobody takes any notice and does overtime anyway?

Maybe this craziness is the very thing I like about Japan.

Scarily enough, even though some things seem totally illogical, I am beginning to understand...

Why oh why do school girls keep their skirts rolled up short even in the middle of [a freezing] Winter?

Why oh why is there never paper towels in the bathrooms for hygiene sake? [It's expected for people to bring your own hand towels, but that's not very hygienic either.]

I don't feel inconvenienced anymore by the lack of public bins... I know to empty my rubbish at the convenience stores that I walk pass.

I seem to be adapting.
