7.1 and no (reported) casualties :)

I've been watching an anime series called 'Tokyo Magnitude 8.0' recently. The story follows a sister and brother who are out together in Odaiba during the first days of their school summer holidays, when an 8.0 (Richter Scale? Shindo Scale?) earthquake strikes Tokyo. Tokyo is left devastated by the initial earthquake as well as the numerous strong aftershocks. The story follows the two children as they try to get back home.

Today, a 7.1 (Richter scale) earthquake struck off the coast of Tokyo. Although no reports of damage or casualties, maybe the anime is a little too close to home. To put this earthquake in perspective, the earthquake that killed over 6,000 people in Kobe in 1995 was 7.2 on the Richter Scale.

I like the anime, but it just scares me mindless that it could very potentially happen. And all my friends (and maybe me..?) could be there at the time. ...But... I guess... you cant stop your life for fear. Or else you might never cross the road for fear of being hit by a bus....

In another piece of news, seems Kichijoji is the most popular area to live in Tokyo, with Ikebukuro in 2nd place. Cant really see why Nakano is in 3rd place though... Maybe I'm missing something??
