What do you do if you are stuck in a lift?

I had a call today from a Japanese friend who is currently visiting England. When I answered I was a little zoned out from doing monotonous University work and I wasn't quite prepared to speak English let alone Japanese. (Scanning in an entire newspaper on a teeny A4 scanner and aiming to change ALL the text ...yes ALL the text, adverts and all... is not a pass time that I'd recommend. Especially when your ipod is broken.)

"What should I do if I'm stuck in a lift?!" she asked.

Hmm?! Suddenly I snapped out of my zoned-out status. My friend was unfortunately stuck in a broken down lift where the alarm call didn't work and nobody was around to hear her kicking and banging on the door. Worse still... she wasn't entirely sure where she was. I was at a complete loss as to what to do for the best.

Luckily with the help of Camden police we were able to locate where she was and rescue her. It took over 3 hours though and lots of phone calls. I dread to think what might have happened if she had've been in a lift with no reception. What's the point of having an alarm button on a lift if it is only for show? grrrrrrrRRR!

I'm going to have to make sure that isn't the only thing she remembers about London.

That must have been scary for her. Can she speak English? How did you find her if she didnt know where she was?

You just remind me of black out in Ikebukuro 2 weeks ago:)) my company is charge of a building electricity at 池袋北口. When I came there, I could see darkest Ikebukuro nightlife district. so beautiful!! Fortunately, trapped nobody in the lift;))) I wished I could enjoy the scene more.

I'm surprising myself saying it, but the police were such a great help! Please, always make a mental note of the building name or street address before you enter a lift!

She can speak English a bit but when you are a bit panicky all you really want is to speak your own language I guess. I think I would be like that.

Ikebukuro in the dark? wow! I'd like to see that too! Did you take a photo?
