Today's Japanorama was about お笑い、apparantely. However, apart from Hard Gay (above), none of today's popular Japanese comedy was shown. Instead, as per usual, the programme went to try and shock, by showing some of the wierd and wacky Japanese comedy that exists. As per usual, it concentrated on porn-type comedy, which is why I guess Hard Gay qualified!! At the beginning of the programme, I had hope, I saw glimpses of SMAP and DownTown... but none of the TV comedy that is reguarly shown in Japan was mentioned. ...At least the previous series of this show wasnt so... well... one-minded.

Another of my pet-hates about the new series is the useless introduction of 'the magic numbers' and their tour of japan. Most of the time, they could as well be anywhere. Today, as the programme was about comedy, they showed the band pulling a practical joke on their band leader. It wasnt even as though it was interesting to watch, maybe to them it was hilarious, but to me, it seemed like a filler.
This programme doesnt do what it says on the tin. It has no interest whatsoever in introducing Japanese culture to the UK. Its an tacky, extreme programme that has taken things too far.
(OK, its always been tacky, and never really gone that far off from sexuality, but this series is just... no.)
Im not going to waste my time watching it anymore.
Especially if it means seeing Jonathan Ross in a Hard Gay Man's outit...!! O_O

Yeah, I agree. It was really naff, the お笑い episode - no Beat Takeshi, Down Town, London Boots, or Sanma san. Just an excuse to show some porn, as you say. Bit annoying really...Japanese comedy is huge in Japan, eh, and yet Mr.Ross thought he may as well stick to the stereotypical crazy stuff. I thought the first episode on kakkoi was 'cool' but now it's all cosplay and rubbish
:-( Oh, well, 笑うしかないですね〜
:( someone call jonathan ross & tell him what he is missing!!
jonathan ross speaks japanese in this programme. is it just words he has learnt for this programme or can he actually speak japanese?
I dont think jonathan ross is fluent, if thats what you mean. i wouldnt be surprised if he knew a few words, but i rekon someone on the show tells him what to say.
I think its just a job for him. If he had any interest in Japan, he wouldnt do this show.
I would agree too. Hard Gay was completely on the money- I used to have 6 year old kids coming into class and thrusting their pelvises regularly- but the show is really just another in the catalogue of, "look at Japan, isn't it funny?" TV specials. I like Jonathan Ross, but this is rather dreary.
