I happen to be partnered up with 3 Americans and 1 Canadian. We have conversations about it, so funny. Let me add more to your list: Brits say chips - Americans fries; mobile phone - cellphone; tomAAto - tomAYto; jam - jelly; jelly - jello.
We have no trouble communicating ;) Although we do have the odd, "Can you say that again" and "What's that?".
I cannot write Japanese now as I'm at the office. Your Japanese is amazing! Forget the classes, just speak with everyone. You'll get the Kansai dialect :) hmm... but do you know 知っとん? Its Himeji area dialect for 知っていますか? They probably speak with Himeji dialect more than Kansai one in your town?
Jing I'm fine outside of class, and I usually remember to switch to 'American mode' inside class. However, no matter what I do, I cant seem to remember to say 'pants' instead of 'trousers' ;( My brain just wont allow it :(

I have laerned just now that trousers is not used in American English!
