Fed up...

I remember someone once saying to me that they couldn't believe the United Kingdom was a 1st world, developed, industrialised, democratic country... I disagreed at the time, but upon further reflection...

The London Underground rarely works, arguments are often required to get people to do their job properly, nothing seems to work as it should, public toilets are a disgrace, things are liable to be stolen the moment you look away.... and now the postal system fiasco is really starting to irritate me....

I admit that I don't know the complete ins-and-outs of it. But what I do know is that I have been waiting for 3 very important London-based letters for over 3 weeks. It would've been quicker to walk there and back to deliver it myself if that had've been possible! The recent news that the backlog of post that hasn't been delivered so far due to on-going strikes - will most likely never be delivered is just unbelievably annoying.

I am also currently asking for someone in Japan to write me an important letter and send it to me. The fact that I cannot ask them to simply 'send it back to me' just makes the whole thing seem much more confusing and consequently like more work.

At work, due to the unreliability of the post, everything has to be now couriered between offices and clients, which, during this time of financial insecurity, is not a great thing. People are trying to avoid couriers - consequently cutting corners, which thus results in errors. I have no involvement in the posting or signing off of publications, but, obviously, as an Artworker I get to shoulder the blame for these errors. Its insane.

I'm tired of these 'complications'.... If Royal Mail workers want to strike, let them. If it is pre-arranged strike action, please Royal Mail, arrange worthwhile alternative methods of delivering post. Its the only way people will ever trust using your service again! (And the only way to stop the strikes without giving the employees what they want...!)

I will most definately be thinking long and hard the next time I plan to send something by post.

Hear hear! Yeah, same, I'm choosing references based in London so that I can pick them up in person, and if needed will deliver to Picadilly myself.

Jeez, what's up with the Royal Mail? Fine, workers' pay may have been cut, but with this sort of behaviour, they can guarentee lower salaries in the future with reputation-affected business going downhill for the post company. It's bonkers!

Its England ;(

I can handle the references, even though it does make it a pain... I'm waiting for stuff from St.Giles, Uni & work... grrrr
