Its coming up to 2 months since I arrived in Tokyo. I came to Japan last year too but the last time I properly lived daily life in Japan would be during my Working Holiday in 2005. Tokyo has changed in 3 years. In particular, the amount of gaijin*. In 2005 I could easily go a whole day without seeing another gaijin that didn't appear to be a tourist. Now, I can't go 20 minutes. Maybe its where I'm working, maybe its just I notice things more now, but things have changed significantly. I wonder what Tokyo will be like in another 3 years. In my opinion, it is a shame...
Other than that, I am surprised (and jealous) to see that train fares haven't gone up a single penny (or yen...) in 3 years! Its unthinkable in London! And its not just train fares... lots of other items haven't risen much in price either. Urayamashii~!
As for when I'll next live Japan... who knows. My mind is all over the place.
For now, I'm just going to do my best at my work placement and concentrate on getting good grades for my final year at Uni.
After that... who knows...

(*Gaijin=foreigner. Using the word foreigner sounds more discriminating to my ear than Gaijin, even though lots of people are against the word 'GAIJIN' too...)

Wow so you've noticed it too eh? I spent time in Tokyo 2 years ago and had the same, almost alone on the world or in Japan hehe, but i visited Tokyo for a weekend a few weeks ago and the amount of gaijins have increased significantly. In 3 years, maybe more gaijin than Japanese? hehe. Not to sound racist or something, but I hope not.
You are lucky with the train fares though, here in Osaka the train fares are pretty high!
Gosh, yes am I jealous! The price rises here have been causing uproars, and if the price of one thing rises, it causes a domino effect, and everything else goes up!
A minibus driver was saying how in 2000, he only had to pay about HK$150 for a day's worth of petrol, but now he needs to spend over HK$700 to keep his minibus in business.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the same..! :) I hope I didn't sound racist either. Nothing against gaijins.. I'm one myself.. but..

I spoke to someone about the train fares today and they said that both train and bus fares in Tokyo havent risen in over 7 years! Definately need to introduce this way of thinking in London and Hong Kong... ;P hehe
