Ah... Tuesday. I wish it was Thursday. Thursday's have always been a lucky day for me one way or another ;) Anyway, the Japanese interview went better than I expected, even though he didnt ask any of the questions I'd anticipated him to. (typical...!) Everyone I've met here who is serious about giving me a chance to work in a Japanese Design Company are mainly only interested in "Why Japan?" Why do I want to work here? Why do I want to design things either bilingually or in Japanese? Why can't I do what I want to do in England? Why did I quit work to study again at University? They are not difficult questions, just a bit long-winded, and I worry about whether the interviewer is able to keep up with what I'm trying to say in sometimes broken Japanese.
Feel as though I've spent my whole life these past few days either in a train, on a platform waiting for a train or rushing around the station in order to catch a train. I dont know if its just me but... before I get on the train, I'm wide awake. As soon as I get on the train, thats it. My little head just wants to head into a deeeeeep sleep. But, as soon as its my stop and I get off the train, breathing non-air conditioned air again, I'm awake as though nothing happened. Are Japanese trains drugged with sleeping pills or something!? Next time I cant sleep I know what I'll do... :)
Also are 'people under trains' becoming more frequent or what? The Tobu Tojo line has been severly delayed twice in the last few days due to this. Come on, Itabashi-ku isnt so bad... I never experienced anything like this at all back in 2005!
Thankfully the election is over now. Japan got noisy during the elections. Men shouting things into megaphones along busy streets, cars driving at 2 miles an hour bellowing out their candidates views etc at all hours, switch on TV to hear another candidate speaking, walk along the road to find a big massive board with lots of posters of smiling, happy, wierd-looking politicians.... Maybe if I was into Japanese politics it wouldnt be so bad... :( Nice to try and read the Kanji for their names though. Good Kanji practice :)
Anyway, now all I have to do is wait.
Wait for good news.
I'm keeping positive.

People often ask me that too, I've never thought of the "Why England" answer until now. Seems like a good one :)
Most of the time I just say that England is boring and I want to live somewhere different and therefore more exciting, but even that's not quite true.
It's not that England is boring, more that other places are just More Exiciting. What do you think?
Hi karen!
Its quite interesting that you were asked mainly about "why japan".Also I suppose that sort of general question that many people will get interest to foreigner.I was also asked "why are you studying art in U.K and why not in japan" when I was in U.K.
However,Its also become complex question sometimes....
Anyways,you've already done it! and I am strongly wishing good news!!
I agree with you that you suspecting about sleeping drrag in a train!(笑) Because if its not, how is it possible to get sleep in a terribly crowded space.Ive just remenbered about missed station with doze when I was in tokyo.I did it many times.
I also having some question about japanese election...,such as "microphone" which candidates are holding whilst they speeching.I mean "why they having bunch of micropone?".Is that really working? or just for make looks aggressive! or etc...?Anyways thats weird enough.Don't worry karen,not just you,I also feeling same way.
hahaha, why japan is kinda typical question and also most qurious question. so, did you answer?
i know it must be easy question for ya, hum?
@Ben,
I think its maybe just that japan seems more exciting as you can discover something new everyday. Its just the fact of being in a different culture to my own. In England, everything I see is normal, even if I agree with it or not, even if Ive seen it before or not... but here some things I see are strange and baffle me and I find that fun. Its not something I can say easily in an interview but attitudes here are different too. People are different, especially in Tokyo.
I also have the advantage of being able to say I'd like to work in one of the most creative countries in the world :)
@moosan
its hard to answer this type of question quickly, huh? ;) So, why are you studying art in the UK and not Japan? ;)
@icchii,
I did answer... I like Japanese Graphic Design and would like to have the opportunity to learn and work with the people here, and also to challenge myself by designing in a different alphabet. Also I like Japanese culture and find Japan an easier place to live than the UK.
...Or there abouts...
Dont know if its a model answer or not though...
