The landmark is moving...

The famous 'Christmas Tree' Sofitel Hotel near Ueno Park is moving... (The big white 'tree' in the middle of the picture) Because of high demand to stay here and lack of rooms (only 2 rooms per floor), they are dismantling it and taking it somewhere else.

Its a shame as I think the area it is in now suits it - there are hardly no other high-rise buildings to distract attention, its overlooking one of Tokyo's most famous parks, its located near to Shitamachi, its easily accessable...

I wonder if they'll keep the shape the same... Or go for something else? As long as its not another beer bottle, or anything with golden poo on top, I'm happy :p

Thanks Karen!

I took a couple of photos from that area around Ueno park in January, and I wondered what that building was. I figured it was some expensive apartment block. And now I know!

I can't believe they'd move it though. Why not just build another hotel?!
