London "service"

The doorbell rang this morning whilst I was in the bath. I couldnt get out and answer it so it was left. When I got out the bath, I made some breakfast and then picked up the post. I saw that there was a parcel card amongst the letters saying I missed a parcel. 'Damn, that must've been what the doorbell was', I thought. Something was very wrong though - the address on the parcel card. It said 104... Thats not my door number. So is the parcel for me or 104?! I cant collect this parcel as I dont have ID saying I live at 104... (as I dont..!)

Half an hour later, I caught sight of the postman across the road. I thought it was strange he should still be on my road, but as I was confused whether this parcel was for me or 104, I approached him.

"You put this through my door, but the door number is incorrect, so was it a mistake? Do I have a parcel or 104?" I asked. He laughed at me and took the card and ripped it up. Maybe he will give me the parcel now I thought. But no, without a word of explanation, he started walking away from me. Huh?

...

"So... Who is the parcel for then?" I asked walking after him.

"No parcel for you today." came the reply.

"But, you rang my doorbell and put this through the door, so even if it isnt my parcel, the people in 104 need that card to collect it!"

"No parcels today" came the repeated reply.

Angry that he is walking away from me, chuckling to himself and talking to me like a 5 year old, I repeated my question again. This time he stopped and looked at me. "That was a mistake. There's no parcel for you today. Your Cornish, right? No parcel for you today. 104 is Whitehead, right? No parcel for them today." he said and then walked away again. I dont see what knowing names proves. If there was no parcel, why fill out the card? Why ring the doorbell? It dont make sense and as I wasnt getting anywhere with Mr. useless, I went back home.

What to do?! You hear stories of such as these:
Postman is sacked over mail stash
Postman sacked over missing post
Postman is jailed for £20m fraud

... I regularly get wrong mail. Mail clearly labeled the correct address. Why is it that nobody in London can seem to do their job anymore?!

Because of the rudeness from the postman and the fact he never explained himself, I'm angry. If it was a mistake like he said, "SORRY" would have gone a long way.

Was there ever a parcel? If so, who was it for? Did it get delivered? Who knows.

If anybody has sent a parcel to my address recently, let me know.
